Ten Secrets to Using Social Media to Drive Traffic to Your Blog

Ten Secrets to Using Social Media to Drive Traffic to Your Blog

Blog Content, blogs, blogger, bloggingBlog traffic starts the whole success process of your business. Without blog traffic, you have no leads, and without leads you don’t have the possibility of converting those leads into customers. Hopefully, you are investing time trying to gain new blog traffic for your business.

Social media is a great way for you to acquire new traffic. If done correctly, you will have a system for developing an endless flow of blog traffic for your business.

Here are seven secrets to using social media to gain blog traffic for your website:

  1. Create Compelling Content – Compelling content is what will attract readers to your blog, keep them there, and have them share your content with others. Create content that is entertaining, informational, and valuable for your readers. Mix up the type of content you provide with text, video, audio, and graphics. Link with other blogs that will compliment your content to show that you value your readers.
  2. Start a Facebook Page for Your Blog – Facebook is one of the largest and most established social media sites in the world. Facebook provides a vast potential marketplace for leads and customers. The key to using Facebook for business is creating and maintaining an entertaining Facebook Fan Page. You can generate traffic back to your blog by consistently posting interesting videos, memes, contests, etc. Provide links for your blog offering to see more of the same type of content.
  3. Get on Twitter – Create a Twitter account for your business blog at twitter.com and start tweeting your content. You can use up to 140 characters to create a tweet. However, you should only use 120 characters so others can retweet, or share, your content. Twitter is great for sharing links, announcing specials or contests, and posing questions. With all of these, always direct your audience back to your blog.
  4. Make the Most Out of LinkedIn – Join LinkedIn and start adding content. Make the most out of LinkedIn by starting groups and participating in groups relating to your marketplace. Post interesting content that your audience would interact with, enjoy and case Boss vs. Leaderthem to click on your blog link. Here is an example of a post of a picture I posted on It generated robust interaction. The post also generated enormous blog traffic.
  5. Pin it on Pinterest – The magic of Pinterest is the graphical nature of the content posted (called pins) on “boards” in your profile for others to share. Each of these pictures has links back to your blog. Again, pin interesting, eye-catching photos that make your viewers want to stop and click on the picture to gain more information.
  6. Post Videos on YouTube and Other Video Hosting Sites – YouTube is the second biggest search engine in the world. Every second of the day millions of people are going to YouTube to be entertained, educated, and find solutions to their problems. If you can produce video that can do that, then YouTube is the place for you! During the video or in your profile, you can include your link that brings traffic back to your blog.
  7. Promote Your Blog with Social Bookmarking Sites – DIGG, Stumbleupon, Reddit, and others are examples of social bookmarketing sites. Bookmarketing is different from Facebook, Twitter, and other social media sites. Unlike Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, you are not concerned with getting likes or fans; you concentrate on placing information on Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit, and other sites so people can find your information.
8. Implement social sharing tools on your website. An excellent tool is Shareaholic, which allows you to place buttons for sharing options via Twitter, Facebook, email, and social bookmarking sites into one tool. Shareaholic also gives you great analytics so you can see how your content is being shared.
  9. Make It Easy to Comment – Allow engagement with your audience by using WordPress tools such as Disqus, IntenseDebate, or Livefyre. You can form a robust community of engaged viewers who want to share their comments and opinions. With these tools, you can control how and if these comments appear on your blog and how you want to communicate with these commenters.
  10. Write Catchy Headlines – Write headlines that make potential readers want to read, engage, and share your posts. People are looking for solutions, and headlines let them know exactly what they will achieve by reading your content. A very interesting tool to help you write headlines is the Headline Analyzer at www.aminstitute.com/headline/index.htm.

Increase Blog Traffic to Your Website with These Ten SEO Secrets

Increase Blog Traffic to Your Website with These Ten SEO Secrets

seo, search engine optimization, search engine, blog traffic, bloggingBlog traffic is a constant concern of any blogger. With ever-growing blog traffic, your ideas, products, and services will have an audience. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the foundation for how search engines find your blog and content. If you do it correctly, your blog will be on page one of many search engines.

The following are ten SEO secrets that will increase your blog traffic and viewership:

  1. Use SEO Themes – A big factor to your blog ranking high is how fast it loads. Your blog has a better chance of ranking high if your blog loads within 1.5 seconds or faster. Look for blog themes that are efficient in the following ways:
    1. Quick load times – You can check the load time of your blog with a tool like Pingdom. You can also decrease the size of your files and increase the speed of your blog with the following plugins: WP Smush.it, WP Optimize and WP Total Cache
    2. Efficient Coding – Make sure your theme is updated on a regular basis. The older the code on your theme, the more likely hackers will breach your site. Also, again you will experience slower load times and maybe even some design issues. Make sure your theme is coded with the HTML5 and CSS3 to be on the safe side.
  2. Use Title and Meta Tags – Make sure you use titles and Meta tags within your blog and the content you use. You need to make sure you are using these with every post to get the best results. Be consistent in your use of the same keyword in your tags that you use throughout your blog!
  3. Optimize Your Images – The one area you can quickly optimize your SEO is through your images. Many graphics programs like Adobe Photoshop give you the option of “saving for the web.” This allows you save your images in the most optimized format so they load quickly on your blog. PNG is the best format for use on your website.
  4. Choose Your Keywords – Before even setting up your blog, do your keyword research. You can go straight to the source and use the Google AdWords Keyword Planner and research the best keywords for your website. Choose the top five to ten keywords and consistently use them in your content. Make sure you include it in your title, Meta tags, and as an anchor text.
  5. Use SEO-Friendly Permalinks – When you create permalinks in WordPress, you will have a default link that comes up that looks something like: http://www.yourwebsite.com/?p=123. The default does not help you in any way with your SEO. Change the Permalinks to a format that is much more SEO friendly. You can use the “Post Name” or Custom option. With the custom option, apply the following command to create an SEO-friendly URL “/%postname%/.” With these commands, the URL will automatically be changed to an SEO format.
  6. Create Quality Content. When you are writing blogs on WordPress, you need to create valuable, engaging, and interesting blog posts that will increase your readership, develop leads, create backlinks, and, in some cases, increase your bottom line. Write for your reader’s eye so that they want to come back and share your content. Use a variety of content, such as text, pictures, quotes, videos, and podcasts.
  7. Add Links – Add links to your blog that give your readers additional resources on whatever subject area your blog is about. Adding links to other outside resources will help your website rank higher on the search engines. When you link to outside resources, always make sure it is a high-quality source. The best way to tell is to get Moz’s MozBar, which helps you learn the domain authority of a website. Go for an 80 or above domain authority score. Make sure you never go below a domain authority score of 50. Consider only linking to three pages within your website to get good coverage without being considered spam by the search engines.
  8. Use Updated Plugins for Your Site – There are a wide selection and free and paid plugins available for your blog. There are many great ones and then there are some that you can do without. You don’t want to install one that wouldn’t be beneficial for your blog’s SEO. Some plugins might slow down the loading speed of your blog. Also, some plugins may cause conflict with other plugins. Do a little research before installing any plugin. See when the last time the plugin was updated. Also see what users are saying about the plugin.
  9. Use Anchor Text the Right Way – What is anchor text? It is the chosen keyword or phrase that links to whatever it is you are talking about. For example, if you are a fitness company and you are talking about exercises, your key phrase might be “exercises to increase fitness.” This would be what you want to use as your anchor text and then link to the exercises you referenced.
  10. Write in the Language of Your Readers – If you are writing to reach engineers, write in the language of your readers. This will show you are an expert in the field and your readers will come back to your blog for more valuable information. However, if you are trying to reach runners, but you use the language of engineers, you will lose your reader. Be in tune with what your readers want to gain the most exposure for your blog.

Blog Secrets: Five Questions to Ask Before Writing Powerful Blog Posts

Blog Secrets:  Five Questions to Ask Before Writing Powerful Blog Posts

blog, blogs, blogging, blog posts, blog content, Ed Sykes, blog traffic guruIf you are not use to writing, creating a blog post can be a daunting task.  Because great, compelling content is the key to the success of your blog, it is important that you develop methods to creating content.  You can use a content writing service like iwriter.com or you can write the posts yourself.

The question is, “How Do You Write Blog Posts That Connect with Readers?”  The following are five questions that will help clarify your thoughts concerning how to write powerful posts:

  1. Are your Target Audience’s Needs Being Addressed? – Does your blog post topic appeal to your target audience? Create a post that excites your readers and creates a buzz among your readers. It will help your blog become successful.
  2. Does Your Post Provide Useful Information to Your Target Audience? – People are always looking for information that can answer their questions.  People look for information that will elevate “pain”  (problems that your readers may be having) or gain pleasure; they are looking for information that will solve problems, and they are looking for information that will create opportunities for their information.  If you can do this, you will develop a growing group of followers waiting for information that is important to them.
  3. Is Your Post Unique? –  While there may be several blogs and social media sites sharing the same information, is your blog post unique in the way you share the information.  Do you share the information through your own personal story or case study?  Are you writing the post through your own unique voice?  Is your viewpoint or perspective unique?  These are all factors that make your post unique and bring readers back and increase blog traffic.
  4. Is Your Blog Using Credible Sources for Your Content? – Take the time to validate your information.  If you are using statistics, charts, etc., make sure you mention the source of your information and make sure they are a reliable resource.  If you can, mention statistics for thought leaders in your industry.  If you are sharing inaccurate information, you can hurt your image and lose credibility with your target audience.blog, blog post, blog content, blogging, blogger, proofreading, Ed Sykes, blog traffic guru
  5. Did You Proofread Your Post? – Invest the time to proofread your post before pressing the “publish” button.  Grammatical errors take away from the message of your post and speak volumes about you as an expert.  If you don’t like proofreading, hire someone to do it for you.  I have found inexpensive, quality proofreaders on www.craigslist.org or www.fiverr.com.  These proofreaders take their jobs seriously and it is an investment in you and your blog.  Work to capture your reader’s attention within the first 100 words of the post.

If you can answer “yes” to the five questions above, you are on the way to producing engaging, interesting, and persuasive content that readers will enjoy reading, acting on, and sharing with others.  Let these five questions be the guide to helping you create a successful blog.

Seven Blog Post Types that Drive Blog Traffic to Your Business!

Seven Blog Post Types that Drive Blog Traffic to Your Business!

Your business blog lives or dies by the type of content you provide for your readers. Your readers must see value in your blog posts and want to act on this content.

Having a variety of content in your blog posts is one way to attract and keep your blog readers. The following are seven types of blog posts that will attract, keep, engage, and convert your readers into customers:Checklist, blog, blog content, blog traffic, blogging, Ed Sykes, blogging expert, social media expert, blog traffic guru

  1. Cheat Sheets, Checklists and To-do Lists – You will develop a loyal blog readership by sharing concise, easy-to-follow, money- saving shortcuts for them to implement in their businesses. They are looking to you, as the authority, to help take them to another level. This type of blog post will do that for you.
  2. How-To’s and Tutorials – Develop blog posts that allow you to show off your talents while allowing your readers to acquire a new skill. Survey your readers and ask them about their biggest challenge and develop a how-to post. You can also develop a tutorial on that subject, or a multi-part series of tutorials and make several blog posts from them. This way the reader wants to come back to your blog to learn more.
  3. Resource Lists – When I present at conferences, one of the biggest takeaways for the audience members are resource lists. The same holds true for your blog. You, as the authority, have given your blessing to valuable resources when you share a resource list in your blog posts. This allows your readers to save time and money and use only the resources that will truly help them. You can also post of the resource list and provide a link to the full list.
  4. infographics, marketing infographics, Checklist, blog, blog content, blog traffic, blogging, Ed Sykes, blogging expert, social media expert, blog traffic guruInfographicsThe 21st century reader is graphical in nature. What I mean by that is if you can express your information through a powerful graphic that walks them through your points, your readers will appreciate it. They are also far more likely to spread the word about your business blog and share your infographics with others on their social media sites.
  5. Podcasts – You can create a series of podcast posts in which you are offering an audio version of the text in the posts. Your readers like to receive your information through a variety of ways. Also, your readers will stay on your blog far longer if you include a podcast in your post. As I always say, “The longer your readers stay, the more likely they are to take action.” You can learn how to create podcasts at About.com or Smart Passive Income.  Keep them on your blog with informative, entertaining podcasts!
  6. Interviews – Post expert interviews on your blog. In some ways, this is easier to do than the other blog post type. There are experts who want to gain exposure and are just waiting for you to contact them about being interviewed about their subject matter. Several times a month I am contacted by subject matter experts or their agents about the possibility of me interviewing the expert and posting it on my blog. This is a great opportunity to brand yourself as an authority in the field, gain additional revenue opportunities by selling the expert’s prodvideo camera, video, digital video, video recording, blog, blogging, blog traffic, blog content, Ed Sykes, Blog Traffic Guruucts and/or services, and giving your blog followers great information to enhance their lives.
  7. Videos – Video blog posts have many of the same benefits of podcasts and much, much more! Videos enhance your blog posts by engaging your reader’s visual and audio senses. Your blog readers are able to take in the information at their own pace. You are able to connect with the blog reader in ways that no other blog type can connect by creating entertaining, informative, and compelling videos. You can also share other expert’s videos on your blog so you have a constant flow of blog content for your readers. To me, video blog posts are the best type of posts to increase blog traffic and convert readers into customers.

Are these all of the possible types of blog posts you can add to your blog? Of course not! I am sure you can think of some additional types of blog posts you can use to grow your blog followers. The point is, take the time to add variety to your blog so you will have no shortage of valuable content for your followers. Your blog followers will appreciate it by reading, sharing, and acting on the content so you will not only enhance their lives but grow your business.
